#HowTo #HashtagReview

Creating a hashtag vault is like creating a capsule wardrobe. Trusty, reliable and on brand. However, the simplicity of a capsule wardrobe is nothing compared to the dopamine surge of buying a brand new piece of clothing. Reviewing your hashtags and adding new ones to your capsule every so often gives your viewers fresh content and fresh tags to associate with your brand. Following the establishment of your hashtag vault, along with your perfectly crafted tags and their application to your content pillars, it is advisable to periodically assess and reconsider the contents within your vault. This practice ensures the maintenance of a dynamic and pertinent social media presence. Notable, at Mint, we maintain three distinct vaults tailored for sectors of our audience and for differing purposes.

So, here is a step-by-step guide on how to review your hashtags:

  1. Go back to the beginning
Before we dive into the hashtag frenzy, it’s crucial to understand who your target audience is, and if
the demographic has changed since your last review. Take some time to reanalyse your ideal customer or follower. What interests them? What are their pain points? Knowing your audience will help you narrow down the hashtags they are most likely to engage with. Brainstorm a list of key tags both from the vault and from your new list to analyse and compare.
  2. Keep an eye on the competition
Take a peek at what your competitors or industry leaders are doing. Which hashtags are they using? Are those hashtags generating high engagement? This can provide additional insights and give you a leg up in the hashtag race!
  3. Analyse engagements
After collating a list of old and new, type your chosen tags into the search bar on Instagram and take
note of how many posts appear per tag. Look for hashtags that have high engagement rates and are
relevant to your content and compare the success of your new and old tags. The highest hashtags have the potential to boost your visibility and attract more likes, comments, and shares.
  4. Test and measure results
Now it’s time to put your findings to the test. After putting them in the vault, incorporate your
chosen hashtags into your social media posts and monitor their performance. Pay attention to the
level of engagement each hashtag receives. Over time, you’ll start to see patterns and trends
emerging. By measuring the results, you can refine your hashtag strategy and focus on the ones that consistently drive high engagement.
By reevaluating your audience, researching relevant keywords, utilising hashtag analytics tools, and
analysing engagements, you can uncover new hashtags that will take your social media game to the
next level. Just like risky fashion choices, hashtags are a constant journey of trial and error, so don’t
be afraid to experiment and adapt your strategy along the way.
