How to Batch Create Content for Social Media

Want to learn how to batch create content for social media? Batch creating your content for social media is a game-changer!

So what is batching content?

Content batching is a productivity technique that involves designing posts or writing caption copy in bulk, during a designated window of time.

How does it work?

Instead of spending time conceptualising, creating and scheduling 1 post, before hopping from task to task, you’ll spend that same amount of time writing out caption copy for multiple posts, for example.

It sounds intense, but it’s not! This approach saves you time, allows you to make the most of bursts of creativity, and helps you to stay consistent online.

Here are our 5 top tips on how to batch create your social media content.

  1. Establish content pillars

Your content pillars are topics that you will consistently discuss through your social media content. We recommend roughly 3-5 content pillars that can be repeated each week based on the number of times you plan to post.

Write down 3-5 topics you’ll consistently speak to that align with your brand identity and values. For example, a building designer could focus on sustainability, open plan living, and contemporary design.

By establishing pillars or “content buckets” for your posts, you create a cohesive brand voice and consistency for your audience.

  1. Brainstorm content ideas

Remember that the purpose of social media is, ultimately, to entertain. In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift away from users engaging with promotional content in favour of educational and entertaining posts.

Of course, you will still promote your product or service offering! But it’s time to put the “social” back in social media.

Spend time creating a mind map or list of content ideas for social media. A great place to start is any FAQs that potential clients have regarding your systems, processes or products!

Focus on creating content that addresses some of these topics in fun, engaging ways. Aim to educate, entertain and connect with your audience.

  1. Write captions in bulk

Caption writing can be a MAJOR roadblock when it comes to social media. Ever had a great shot or video to share, but you just can’t think of what to say?

The days of three emojis as a caption, are well and truly behind us. With Instagram introducing searchable keywords to their platform, it’s time to capitalise on exposure through caption copy.

  1. Source or take photos

After you’ve batched some captions, you need to find the creative to accompany them.

Original photography like UGC (user generated content) and BTS (behind the scenes) posts generally perform best on social media!

That being said, there’s nothing wrong with mixing a few stock images into the content plan to elevate your feed. Try free stock image sites like Pixabay, Pixels and Unsplash when you’re stuck!

  1. Film video content

With a huge shift towards pushing video content across all social media channels (hello, Instagram Reels and IGTV), it’s important to make sure you add some video content into the mix when batching your content.

Video content is a great tool for educating your audience in a fun, creative and much more engaging way than a standard image post.

Note: filming video content will take some time. Make sure you intentionally allocate time to focus on this one.

Top tip: make sure you always caption (CC) your video posts. The majority of Instagram users use the app with the sound off!

  1. Plan your feed

Decide on a consistent, eye-catching theme or layout for your Instagram profile.

Whilst the quality of your content is the primary focus here, you also need to consider the visual impact of your feed on a platform like Instagram!

Map out where your posts will sit in your feed so you can balance your use of brand colours.

  1. Schedule your posts

Use a scheduling tool like Later, Sked Social or Plann, to set up your content to auto-publish at a designated date and time.

This step in the content batching process makes life a lot easier! You can essentially “set and forget” an entire month’s worth of content and spend your time each week focussing on engagement tactics instead.

Batching content is easier than it looks! Start small, work your way through our list of tips, and you’ll be a content batching pro in no time at all.
